Cyclone Nisarga: Flight operations suspended at Mumbai airport due to strong crosswinds
MUMBAI: Flight operations at the Mumbai airport have been suspended for over four hours from 2.30 pm due to strong crosswinds as Cyclone Nisarga is set to pass close to Mumbai.

The decision came after the airport witnessed a runway excursion with FedEx flight 5033 arriving from Bengaluru.

"The incident occurred when the MD11 aircraft landed on runway 14/32. The aircraft was towed away from the runway and there has been no disruption in flight operations," said a Mumbai International Airport Ltd spokesperson. "In consultation with AAI, considering the strong crosswinds, it has been decided that no arrivals and departures will take place between 2.30pm and 7pm,"the MIAL added.

Mumbai airport handled an average of 50 arrivals, departures in the past one week, but on Wednesday the flight movements were down to 19 as airlines cancelled flights in view of the cyclone.
